Spelling Bees

Every year, St. Joseph students have the opportunity to participate in two Spelling Bees:

  • The Archdiocesan Spelling Bee, which is sponsored by the Houghton Mifflin Company is for 4th, 5th and 6th grade students.

  • The National Spelling Bee, which is held during Catholic Schools Week in January, is for students in grades 6, 7 and 8.

Service Hours

7th and 8th grade students share their time and talent by serving others in their school, parish, and community.  As part of their Religion curriculum, students complete a minimum of fifteen hours of service per trimester.  Service activities range from shoveling snow for elderly neighbors to visiting with the sick at Fair Acres or the mentally challenged at the Cardinal Krol Center.  Although students receive a grade for completion of these hours, the greatest reward is the one they receive by helping others.  As the students have learned through their experiences, no act of kindness, however small, is ever wasted.

Geography Bee

Our annual Geography Bee, which is open to students in grades 4 through 8, is a contest that helps to promote knowledge of geography.  The winner of this Bee could go on to compete at the national level in Washington, D.C.

Student of the Month

In an effort to affirm our young men and women who stand among their peers exhibiting a true Christian spirit and attitude, it is our pleasure to publicly acknowledge one of our 7th or 8th grade students each month as Saint Joseph School’s Student of the Month.  Chosen students are exemplary role models, exhibiting strong values and performing acts of service within their school, parish, and community.  Throughout the school year, Students of the Month are honored at a special dinner hosted by the Aston Lions Club.

Science Fair

Every winter, Saint Joseph School hosts a Science Fair to encourage all students to gain a further understanding and love of Science.   All students in  Kindergarten through 8th grade are invited to submit a science project in one the the following categories:    Botany, Chemistry, Consumer Products,  Biology  and Physics      The winners of this fair go on to compete at the Delaware County Science Fair.

Student Council

Student Council’s main goal is to organize and engage in service projects throughout the school year as well as encouraging school spirit.  Some past projects include: Peanut Butter and Jelly Drive, Thanksgiving Food Drive, Parish Advent Giving Tree, Remembering Our Brave Troops Overseas, and Breakfast Bundles.  St. Joseph’s Student Council brings much enthusiasm and spirituality to our student body.  St. Joseph’s Student Council consists of four executive board members and eight representatives.

Computer Fair

Students in 6th through 8th grade are eligible to complete in the Pennsylvania Middle States Computer Fair.  Project categories include Web Design, Graphic Design, Computer Fair Logo Design, Multimedia, Digital Movie and Desktop Publishing.
